The cost of everyday items we need continue to rise. How can we save?
You’re not imagining things. The price tag on the everyday items we need are rising. According to Market Watch, consumer prices have increased almost 3 per cent within the last year, which is the largest spike since 2012.
These unavoidable price hikes can make going to the store feel like a trap, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
The best way to cut costs is to start counting up your small expenses. It’s much easier to make small changes in your budget than it is to make one big change.
Try looking at what you’re spending on takeout meals, or even just your morning coffee. That’s an easy expense to cut, and it comes with the alternative of bringing your own coffee to work in the morning.
Another way to fight rising prices is to pay attention to cost per product. Buying in packs will help to lower the price per unit. By paying a little bit more up front, your product will last longer than it would buying the cheaper version of it, only for you to stock up again a couple weeks later.
One of the reasons for the increase in consumer prices is due to the rising cost of fuel. This makes the products we consume more expensive in store, and this is probably something you recognize at the pump too. That’s why it’s worth it to keep an eye on online deals, in order to save yourself from having to fuel up on your way home from the grocery store.
These little adjustments can turn into extreme savings if you keep up with them. Over time you’re certain to see a positive change in your bank account.
